The Job
A
Noteworthy Job in Colorado - Foreman Robert
Gonzales (in bucket) and Groundman David Klachko
inspired a wonderful letter full of thanks from
Grand Valley Power customers Roberta and Steven
Miller of Glade Park, Colorado. The Millers were
so impressed with the duo's professionalism, efficiency
and attention to safety that they snapped the picture
featured above. In Mr. Miller's words, "Thank
you for caring enough to send us your very best."
Congratulations on a job well done and keep up the
great work!

On
the Scene in Michigan - General Foreman
Maynard Lowe, Foreman Jeff Andrist and Groundman
Mike Cole recently made the paper in Adrian, Michigan.
A photographer from The Daily Telegram captured
these images of the Jeff Lynch Region crew while
they were completing preliminary tree trimming and
removals for a Consumers Energy power line project
in January.

High
Wire Act - When over 45 miles of static
wire needed to be replaced with fiber-optic cable
high atop Pennsylvania Power & Light transmission
lines, Asplundh Construction Corp. took to the skies!
Last July and August, Supervisor Mike Reilly and
General Foreman Vince Stanbro hired Agrotors Helicopter
Service to give them a lift 180 feet into the air
to tackle this task between Stroudsburg, Bethlehem
and Martins Creek, Pennsylvania. Pictured left,
gutsy General Foreman Larry Straw is strapped onto
scaffolding attached to the helicopter, taking out
a ground wire shield in preparation for the fiber-optic
cable installation.

Timber!
- Last summer, three Utility Tree Service crews
were called in to take down a 180-foot red fir on
Pacific Gas & Electric property in La Porte,California.
The tree was marked for removal because of a dead
top and a huge cavity in the trunk. Below, Foreman
Gary Vincelet (green shirt) supervises Climber Luke
Jenkins (red shirt) as he finishes a pie cut into
the trunk of the tree. A notch was then cut into
the backside of the tree just below the bottom of
the pie cut to insert two, 35-ton silvey tree jacks.
Along with safety ropes, the hydraulically pumped
jacks helped Climber Joe Wathel (not pictured) and
crew direct the fall of the tree to a designated
safe area. Pictured above, General Foreman Andy
Vanderploeg and Foreman Jeremie Socey smile down
at Climber Luke Jenkins, who snapped this shot from
inside the cavity that formed in the trunk of the
tree. General Foremen Steve Atteberry and DeWayne
Emerson supervised this well-executed job!
