Shoot
Out 2001 Award Winners on Display
Shoot
Out 2001 was a record-breaker for participation so our judges
faced quite a challenge to select the ultimate winners of the
annual photo contest sponsored by the Corporate Communications
Department. Check out these "hot shots" they chose!
Compared
to last year's competition, Shoot Out 2001 brought in
69 entrants (compared to 47 last year) and once again, they
included family members, customers of Asplundh, retirees and,
of course, employees! Judges had to narrow the field of more
than 230 photos down to three winners in each category. Compare
this to 166 total entries in 2000. With so many potential winners,
we decided again to add an Honorable Mention in each category.
Congratulations
go to the following:
- In the
Work-Related category, the first place winner out of
a remarkable 100 entries was Supervisor Kevin Dove of the Mike
Smith Region in Florida. Second prize went to Vice President
Steve Bostock in Alabama and our third place winner was WMS
Coordinator Adam Webber of the Steve Christiansen Region in
Nova Scotia, Canada. Honorable Mention went to Foreman Corey
Raymond of the Remo Maddalozzo Region in British Columbia, Canada.
- In the
Nature category, the first place winner was Teresa Cleghorn,
wife of Randy Cleghorn who works in the Preston Polk Construction
Division in Georgia as an underground cable operator. Second
place honors went to Pamela Frenier, wife of Vice President
Bill Frenier in Maine. The third place prize winner was Bill
Banks, a district claims representative for our CLS subsidiary
operation in New Jersey.
Honorable Mention in this category went to Manager Mike Gordon
of Asplundh Brush Control in Michigan. These winners were chosen
from a field of 130 entries!
The skilled
photographers who "made the mark" will share a total
of $650 in prize money! First place winners receive $150, while
second and third place contestants each earn $100 and $75, respectively.
Honorable Mention winners receive special Asplundh blankets
and safety lanterns. Several Shoot Out 2001 contestants will
also be featured in Asplundh's Year 2002 wall calendar.
Many thanks
to our judges George Graham, Sr., a local professional
photographer and photography instructor; DOT Compliance Supervisor
Billy Hughes, who was our safety expert; Vice President Brent
Asplundh, who lent a sponsor's perspective to the judging; and
Corporate Administration Manager Jim Hines. All four deserve
a round of applause for their contribution to another great
Shoot Out!
