Four
New Managers in the U.S. and Canada
Tom
Anderson, former supervisor in the Steve
Miller Region in New Jersey, was promoted in August
to manager of Asplundh operations on the property
of Public Service Electric & Gas (PSE&G)
in New Jersey. Vice President Gregg Asplundh sponsors
the Tom Anderson Region.
A 46-year Asplundh veteran and a New Jersey native,
Tom began his career as a climber in 1955. He advanced
to foreman in 1971 and was promoted to general foreman
in 1984 under now retired Vice President Harold
Selvey. Tom attended the Asplundh Supervisory Training
Program in 1988 and two years later, he advanced
to supervisor. Tom's management responsibilities
primarily include overseeing Asplundh vegetation
management crews working for PSE&G in New Jersey.
He is a member of the ISA and the New Jersey Shade
Tree Federation.
David
Fleischner, former supervisor in the
Rod Cornett Region in Illinois, was promoted to
manager under Vice President Carl Rogers in Australia
in September. Vice President Matt Asplundh sponsors
the subsidiary, Asplundh Tree Expert (Australia)
Pty. Ltd.
David, a grandson of the late company founder Lester
Asplundh, started working on a tree crew in the
Boston, Massachusetts area in April 1998. Prior
to that, he had earned a bachelor's degree in international
studies from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore,
Maryland. By 1999, David had progressed through
the rank of foreman and with his promotion to general
foreman, was transferred to North Carolina. In February
2000, he advanced to supervisor and moved to Illinois.
With his promotion to manager, David makes his third
and farthest move to Australia where he manages
Asplundh operations that serve utilities and municipalities
in the states of New South Wales and Queensland.
Martin
Jasso,
former supervisor in the Eugene Wyatt Region in
Texas, was hired in August by Farrens Tree Surgeons,
Inc. to be the subsidiary's new manager in Florida.

Region.
A native of Mexico, Martin and his family moved
to Texas when he was a child. He joined an Asplundh
tree crew there in 1985 with two years of prior
line clearance experience. Four years later, Martin
advanced to foreman and in 1993, he was promoted
to general foreman, overseeing outsourcing crews
in several states from California to Maryland. In
1999, he advanced to supervisor of crews working
for Entergy in East Texas. In his new position,
Martin's management responsibilities include overseeing
Farrens tree crews working for Florida Power Corp.
and Tampa Electric Co. in Florida. Martin was recently
recognized by the company for his outstanding performance
of storm work during the Holiday 2000/2001 ice storm.
Jeff
Lynch, former supervisor in the Tom Gunning
Region in Arkansas, was promoted to manager in parts
of Michigan in August. Vice President Keith Asplundh
sponsors the Lynch Region.
Born in Massachusetts, Jeff started his Asplundh
career on a tree crew in North Carolina in 1991.
Four years later, he advanced to general foreman
with a move to Florida and later to northern California.
In March 1999, Jeff was promoted to supervisor in
Arkansas and earlier this year, he received company
recognition for the leadership and management skills
he demonstrated in response to the Holiday 2000/2001
ice storm. As a regional manager, Jeff can now settle
into his responsibilities for managing Asplundh
operations on the properties of various investor-owned,
cooperative and municipal accounts in central and
northern Michigan. A 1998 graduate of the Asplundh
Supervisory Training Program, he is an ISA Certified
Arborist and First Aid/CPR instructor.
Six
New Supervisors for the Tree Co. and UPT
Shannon
Barrett joined Asplundh in February as
a supervisor under Manager Larry Kirk in Virginia
when Asplundh acquired the line clearance operations
of the Bartlett Tree Expert Company. Vice President
Brent Asplundh sponsors the Kirk Region.
Shannon brings to Asplundh more than 19 years of
prior line clearance experience with Bartlett. Starting
out on a tree crew in his home state of Tennessee,
he advanced through the ranks to general foreman
in 1989. Five years later, Shannon was promoted
to assistant manager/superintendent, overseeing
as many as 52 crews working in Tennessee and Virginia.
As an Asplundh supervisor, Shannon is responsible
for overseeing vegetation management crews working
on the properties of AEP and Virginia DOT. He graduated
from the Asplundh Supervisory Training Program in
June and he is in the process of preparing for the
ISA Certified Arborist exam.
Chris
Eddy, former general foreman in West
Virginia for Utility Pole Technologies, Inc. (UPT),
was promoted in July to regional manager under Vice
President Pat O'Connor. UPT is our pole inspection
and restoration subsidiary, which is sponsored by
Vice President Brent Asplundh.
Chris joined the company in 1999 with almost six
years of experience in the field as a foreman of
utility pole inspection and restoration crews. As
a regional manager for UPT, Chris is responsible
for overseeing pole inspection, treatment and reinforcement
crews working for utilities in New Jersey, Washington,
D.C., Virginia and West Virginia. He completed the
Asplundh Supervisory Training Program in May. Chris
holds a pesticide applicator's license for the state
of West Virginia.
Larry
Jones, a former general foreman in North
Carolina, advanced to supervisor in June under Manager
Ellis Anderson in Tennessee. The Anderson Region
is sponsored by Vice President Steven Asplundh.
A 27-year company veteran, Larry joined an Asplundh
tree crew in his home state of North Carolina in
1974 after serving two years in the U.S. Army. After
working 11 years as a foreman, Larry was promoted
to general foreman in 1988. With his advancement
to supervisor, he has transferred to the neighboring
state of Tennessee where he now supervises Asplundh
crews working on the property of various municipal
and cooperative utilities in eastern Tennessee.
Larry studied tree biology at North Carolina State
University and is a 1990 graduate of the Asplundh
Supervisory
Training Program. He is preparing to take the ISA
Certified Arborist exam and will soon join the Tennessee
Vegetation Management Association.
Michael
Meador, formerly a general foreman in
Virginia, was promoted to supervisor in Texas under
Manager Allen LeBlanc in July. Vice President Chris
Asplundh, Jr. sponsors the LeBlanc Region.
With approximately five years of prior line clearance
experience, Mike came to work for Asplundh as a
foreman in his home state of Virginia in 1996. The
following year, he was promoted to general foreman
under Manager Larry Kirk and he recently took the
opportunity to advance to supervisor by transferring
to the LeBlanc Region in Texas. Mike is currently
responsible for overseeing Asplundh crews working
on the properties of Central Power & Light and
various rural electric cooperatives in South Texas.
He served two years in the U.S. Navy and is a May
2001 graduate of the Asplundh Supervisory Training
Program. Mike is a member of the ISA and is preparing
to take the ISA Certified Arborist exam.
Juan
Montero, former superintendent in the
Martin Arriola Outsourcing Region in Florida, was
promoted in August to supervisor under Manager Ellis
Anderson in Tennessee. Vice President Steven Asplundh
sponsors the Anderson Region.
Born in Mexico, Juan joined an Asplundh tree crew
in Texas in 1994. By November 1995, he had advanced
to foreman and the following year, he was promoted
to general foreman. Juan transferred to Florida
in 1997 where he became a superintendent. In March,
he graduated from the Asplundh Supervisory Training
Program and in August, he moved to Tennessee with
his promotion to supervisor. His primary responsibilities
are overseeing crews throughout the state who are
working on fixed price contracts and assisting in
preparing unit price bids. He will soon be joining
the Tennessee Vegetation Management Association.
Paul
Thomas, former general foreman in Indiana,
advanced to supervisor under Manager Tom Sharritts
in July. Vice President Jeff Asplundh sponsors the
Sharritts Region which serves parts of Indiana and
Ohio.
A native of Indiana, Paul (or 'Beagle', as his friends
call him) started working on an Asplundh tree crew
in 1985 and the following year, he became a mowing
crew foreman. In 1987, Beagle advanced to general
foreman and he attended the Asplundh Supervisory
Training Program in 1990. Skilled in equipment maintenance
and a licensed pesticide applicator, Beagle has
developed various spray and mowing pieces for right-of-way
maintenance. As a supervisor, he oversees crews
working on the property of Northern Indiana Public
Service Co. He is a member of the Indiana Arborist
Association, which honored him with their Gold Leaf
Award earlier this year for his work with the Winamac,
Indiana Tree Commission.
