New
Manager of Field Personnel Named
Gene
Nichols, former construction supervisor in the Steve Bostock
Region in Alabama, was selected in early October to be the corporation's
new manager of Field Personnel. He is working closely with the
retiring Director of Field Personnel Mike Lynch who will be
leaving at the end of the year after almost 40 years with the
company. Reporting to Corporate Administration Manager Jim Hines,
Gene will also work directly with all sponsors in handling their
regional personnel issues.
Originally
from New York, Gene joined Asplundh in January 1999, bringing
with him more than 25 years of experience in management, training,
and utility line construction in the Southeast. He has studied
business administration at Robeson Technical College and Pembroke
State University in North Carolina. Gene is a May 2000 graduate
of the Asplundh Supervisory Training Program and has received
National Safety Council training. He served in the U.S. Army
27th Airborne Engineers from 1970 to 1973.
Five New Supervisors for the Tree Co.
Announced
Ed Berinobis,
former general foreman in the Jeff Youngman Region in Iowa,
was promoted to supervisor in March. Vice President Matt Asplundh
sponsors the Youngman Region.
Ed joined
an Asplundh tree crew in 1993 in his home state of Iowa and
within two years, he had advanced to general foreman. In early
1997, Ed transferred to Florida, but returned to work for Manager
Jeff Youngman in July 1997. Ed's supervisory responsibilities
currently include overseeing Asplundh tree crews working for
Alliant Utilities and various rural electric cooperatives in
Iowa. He also oversees several outsourcing crews who travel
for temporary assignments in neighboring Asplundh regions. A
climbing instructor, Ed is currently preparing for the ISA Certified
Arborist test.
Mike Fogarty, former general foreman in Colorado, was
promoted in August to supervisor in South Texas under Manager
Allen LeBlanc. Chris Asplundh Jr. sponsors the LeBlanc Region.
A well-traveled
Asplundh veteran, Mike first joined Asplundh in 1989 with two
years of prior line clearance experience, working on a tree
crew in Florida. He left the company to work for a tree service
company in California in 1991, but returned to Asplundh as foreman
in New Mexico and Idaho three years later. In 1995, Mike advanced
to general foreman in the Will Willis Region in Arizona and
transferred to Colorado in 1998. As a new supervisor, Mike is
responsible for overseeing tree crews working on the properties
of Austin Energy, San Antonio Electric and several rural electric
cooperatives in South Texas. He is an ISA Certified Arborist/Utility
Specialist and a proctor for the ISA. Mike has taken advanced
courses in forestry and conservation, and is a Dale Carnegie
graduate. He completed Asplundh Supervisory Training Program
in 1997.
Mike King, formerly a general foreman in Kentucky, advanced
to supervisor under Manager Ellis Anderson in July. Vice President
Steven Asplundh sponsors the Anderson Region.
Mike first
came to work for Asplundh in his home state of Kentucky in 1983
and within three years, he advanced to foreman. In 1994, Mike
was promoted to general foreman and graduated from ASTP that
same year. Mike holds a commercial pesticide applicator's license
in the states of Tennessee and Kentucky and is an American Red
Cross First Aid/CPR Instructor. As a supervisor in the Anderson
Region, Mike is responsible for overseeing Asplundh crews working
on the properties of Nashville Electric Service, Millington
Telephone and various rural electric cooperatives in western
Tennessee and northern Mississippi.He is a member of the ISA
and is preparing to take his ISA Certified Arborist exam.
Kim Nicholson,
a former general foreman, advanced to supervisor in August under
Manager Rocky Robinson in Florida. Jeff Asplundh sponsors the
Robinson Region.
Kim started
with the company as a general foreman in Florida in 1993 when
Asplundh acquired Farrens Tree Surgeons. He came on board with
over 18 years of line clearance experience in the Midwest and
the South. Kim's supervisory responsibilities include overseeing
tree, TGR and specialized equipment crews working on the properties
of various municipal, rural electric cooperative and D.O.T.
accounts throughout Florida. He is a First Aid/CPR Instructor,
an ISA Certified Arborist and holds a current Florida pesticide
applicator's license. Kim is a member of the ISA, Utility Arborist
Association and National Arborist Association. He has studied
business management and computers at the Indiana Vocational/Technical
College and is a November 1994 graduate of the Asplundh Supervisory
Training Program.
George Piner, former general foreman, was promoted in
June to supervisor under Manager Bob Atherton in the eastern
Carolinas. Chris Asplundh, Jr. sponsors the Atherton Region.
A native
of North Carolina, George joined an Asplundh tree crew in 1989,
following in the footsteps of his father who worked for Asplundh
off and on for many years. George worked his way up through
the ranks to general foreman in 1994 and graduated from the
Asplundh Supervisory Training Program in September 1997. As
a supervisor in the Atherton Region, George is primarily responsible
for overseeing Asplundh tree, spray and specialized equipment
crews working on the properties of various municipal and rural
electric cooperative accounts in the eastern Carolinas. He is
currently preparing to take the ISA Certified Arborist exam
and was a recent attendee of the annual Mountain Lake Vegetation
Management Council meeting.
