Infrared
Services
Asplundh,
the world's leading utility service company, is also a leader
in the infrared (IR) inspection industry. Asplundh's certified
IR technicians employ proven techniques and equipment to detect
incipient electrical faults and mechanical problems due to
overheating. To locate the "hot spots," we use a high-resolution
thermal imager which is similar to a closed-circuit TV system.
It senses only the infrared thermal energy emitted by the
target. The instrumentation we use allows normal operations
to continue even during bright daylight hours - we are not
restricted to nighttime or overcast days for effective operations.
Predictive
Maintenance Enhances YOUR Maintenance Program
A thermal scan is a cost-effective way to locate problems
prior to failure and emergency repair. If an outage occurs,
history dictates it will be at the worst possible moment.
The dollars spent on an IR inspection program often have paybacks
that are HUNDREDS or THOUSANDS of times over the cost of the
program. In addition, an IR inspection program may help reduce
liability. In fact, in some instances, it may be required
by your insurance company.

Supervision
Vehicular
operations allow for rapid scanning of power substations and
distribution lines. Helicopter operations permit hundreds
of miles of electrical transmission line to be surveyed in
a single day. For rough terrain, ATV or 4WD operations allow
access in remote areas to detect problems. Portable configurations
permit walking inspections of electrical or steam systems,
boilers or built-up rooftops.
